Shekhar Naik, owner/chef, graduated from Bombay Hotel Management School, India, in 1977. He worked for a short while at the five star Taj Intercontinental Hotel in Bombay as a Trainee Chef. Shekhar started his first restaurant, Gypsy Corner, a very popular café in 1979. He owned and operated various Indian and Chinese restaurants in the Bombay and Pune, two major metros in India. He moved to the United States in 1995 to open Ambassador of India restaurant in Glastonbury.

In 2007, along with the support of his wife, Deepa Naik,
Ambassador of India expanded to two new locations: West Hartford Center and downtown Hartford. Look out for another location about to open in New Haven, CT.
